The Diagnosis of Mood Disorders: This module presents new information based on current advances in the diagnosis of mood disorders. The aim of this module is to empower psychologists with a greater appreciation of the complexities of the depression subtypes and a clearer understanding of treatment approaches. Psychologists are encouraged to re-examine their own practices in the diagnosis of mood disorders.
The Impact of Stress and Personality Styles in Non-melancholic Depression: This module will provide psychologists with an opportunity to further develop their clinical skills in recognising and managing the different clinical presentations of non-melancholic depression which, in turn, are based on qualitative aspects of life event stressors, temperament and personality factors.
Addressing Non-melancholic Depression in the Anxious Worrier: This module is designed to assist psychologists who are managing clients with 'anxious worrying' personality styles. The module focuses on how to assess this specific personality characteristic in the context of a mood disorder and provides participants with a clearer understanding of the typical symptom pattern and illness course.
Addressing Non-melancholic Depression in the Perfectionist: The aim of this module is to enable psychologists to further develop skills in managing clients whose personality styles comprise high levels of 'perfectionism'. Psychologists will be able to recognise how perfectionism, as a personality characteristic, shapes the symptom pattern for non-melancholic depression, and offers specific strategies for developing psychological treatments and building resilience.
The Role of Medication in the Management of Mood Disorders: This module is designed to educate psychologists about the range of medications used in the treatment and management of mood disorders. The module aims to help psychologists identify differing medications’ mode of action, side-effect profiles and possible drug-drug interactions.
