The Institute's introductory lectures are aimed at mental health professionals who are familiar with psychological strategies in treating mood disorders, including registered psychologists and clinical psychologists, psychology interns and accredited counsellors.
These lectures aim to provide participants with an introduction to specialised topics which are explored in more detail in the Master Class workshops. Participants will be familiarised with the Black Dog Institute model of mood disorders and provided with information about latest research findings and their application to clinical practicing.
APS accreditation: 1 PD Generalist or Specialist points for members of the Clinical, Community & Counselling Colleges.

Working with General Practitioners and Psychiatrists
This 1-hour lecture is aimed at psychologists who are currently working with general practitioners and psychiatrists. The lecture aims to familiarise participants with the new Medicare arrangements for psychologists and facilitate discussion about some of the issues involved in referral and patient management.
Advances in the Diagnosis and Management of Bipolar Disorder
This 1-hour lecture examines recent developments in the diagnosis and management of bipolar disorder - with a special focus on bipolar II disorder. The lecture aims to familiarise participants with current treatment practices, both medical and psychological, including the development of 'Wellbeing Plans' and other relapse prevention strategies.
Focused Psychological Strategies - Treating Mood Disorders with Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
This 1-hour lecture outlines the rationale and process of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) in the treatment and management of mood disorders (including bipolar disorder). The lecture aims to familiarise participants with current clinical guidelines in the use of CBT for mood disorders.
Focused Psychological Strategies – Recovery and Resilience in Mood Disorders
This 1-hour lecture examines models of relapse prevention and strategies for developing resilience in patients who have suffered from mood disorders (including bipolar disorder). The lecture focuses on the long-term management of mood disorders and the promotion of psychological wellbeing.
