The Institute's Master Class workshops are skills-based and are aimed at experienced clinicians, particularly those with a strong interest in the mood disorders.
Each workshop will incorporate new research findings, suggestions as to how relevant clinical skills can be refined and expanded, and practical tools for use with clients.

Treating Bipolar Disorder from a Psychological Perspective
This workshop covers diagnostic and management issues with particular reference to differences between Bipolar I and Bipolar II Disorders. It also presents information about medications used in the treatment of acute episodes as well as issues relevant to long-term management. The seminar provides practical skills on psychological strategies including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Interpersonal and Social Rhythms Therapy and the development of Wellbeing Plans to facilitate recovery and to prevent relapse in Bipolar Disorder.

Advanced Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Strategies for Mood Disorders
This workshop is aimed at clinicians wishing to obtain specialised skills in managing mood disorders (depression and Bipolar Disorder) with cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT). Clinicians are required to have prior knowledge of CBT principles and experience in treating patients with mood disorders. The seminar is delivered in two sections, the first, addressing depressive symptomatology and, the second, addressing the ‘highs’, in bipolar disorder. It focuses on challenging maladaptive assumptions and addressing faulty schemas related to treatment compliance, suicidal ideation and psychosocial difficulties in mood disorders within a CBT framework. Participants are encouraged to develop practical skills in CBT to use with their own patients with mood disorders.

Building Resilience to Mood Disorders: Risk Reduction, Relapse Prevention and Maintenance Strategies
This workshop provides specialised skills for clinicians working with patients with mood disorders over the long-term. The workshop examines three key areas relevant to long-term management including risk reduction - within the context of lifestyle modification, stress management and interpersonal skills training, relapse prevention - with a particular focus on the detection and management of early warning signs and the development of Wellbeing Plans for both depression and Bipolar Disorder. Participants will also be encouraged to consider factors related to risk and recovery within the wider social context for patients with mood disorders.
