Short Lectures

Bipolar Insights - What we can learn from people with bipolar disorder (1.5-hr)

This forum exposes psychologists, counsellors and mental health professionals to the experience of bipolar disorder through a panel discussion involving a facilitator and three participants with bipolar disorder. Topics that will be discussed include the etiology and natural course of the disorder, implications for psychosocial functioning, experiences (positive and negative) with health professionals, and advice for clinicians working with bipolar sufferers. The audience will be encouraged to direct questions to the panel. All panel members are articulate and well-informed volunteers who have previously spoken about their bipolar disorder, and have a deep commitment to increasing awareness and understanding of the condition. The facilitator is a clinical psychologist well-versed in the condition, working regularly in a clinical setting with people suffering from the condition, and convening the majority of the training courses for psychologists at the Black Dog Institute on bipolar disorder.
