Online Bipolar Education Study

Manage the mood swings of Bipolar Disorder

The University of New South Wales is conducting a research study into web-based education for people newly-diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. It is designed to complement existing treatment and help people take control of their illness through education and self-management.

They are seeking people who:

  • Have been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder within the last 12 months
  • Are being seen on a regular basis for treatment by a mental health professional
  • Have a valid email address and access to a computer and the internet
  • Can undertake 8 sessions, one per week, on their computer (each session takes about 30 minutes)
  • Are aged over 18 and live anywhere in Australia.

What is involved?

Participants will be randomly assigned to one of three programs; all involve an online education program about Bipolar Disorder and one in addition includes email support from an 'Informed Supporter'. 'Informed Supporters' are people with Bipolar Disorder who are effectively managing their condition. Participants will complete questionnaires before, during and after the program. The education program is not a treatment program and participants will need to continue to see their managing health professional to be eligible to take part.
