    Printing and distribution of a brochure to around 3,500 general practices nationwide to inform patients about the online MAP and encourage them to ask their doctors for a referral. Project cost $10,000
    Upgrade online education program about the MAP for health professionals to make it more engaging and effective. Include video and interactivity. Project Cost $50,000

  • Online Health Professional Education Program
    Extend new online interactive education modules to enable very needed enhancements. Cost = approx $20k per module (3 modules needed) Project Cost $60,000
    Create additional online interactive education modules for health professionals. e.g. treating mood disorders, understanding bipolar. Project Cost $100k per 1 hour program

  • Health Professional Toolkit
    Create version of DM-10 (depression screening) and bipolar screening that can operate within Medical Director and Best Practice clinical system. Project Cost $30,000

  • Positive Psychology for Young People
    The Institute is seeking funds to add more activities to its new youth wellbeing website, BITE BACK, a world first online program providing positive psychology techniques to young people. DoHA funding has enabled the Institute to design and evaluate the initial set of online activities, however, we are now seeking add further activities to the program.
    Character strengths-based activity “Discover your edge” Project cost $90,000
    This activity assists young people to identify their top strengths and find out new ways to approach life using these strengths.
    Meaning activity “What’s your passion” $70,000
    This module assists young people to gain a sense of purpose while getting to do the things they love.
    Mood boost activity “Inspiration board” $40,000
    This module enables young people to build sources of inspiration and motivation when they need a lift.
    Video interviews with inspirational young people $5,000 each
    Video interviews provide ideas and inspiration for young people to live a positive life and learn different ways to overcome life’s difficulties.

Education & Training for Health Professionals

  • Training for School Counsellors, Principals and Other School Staff
    Delivery of youth education program in schools for school counsellors, principals and staff ranging from 1-hr presentations to full day workshops. The training expenses are $1,200 -$3,000 per program, depending on duration. Overall cost for 20 programs will be approximately $60,000.

  • Training for GPs and GP Registrars
    Provision of training for GPs and GP registrars in rural areas and outside NSW $5500 per workshop – we deliver approx 60 GP workshops per year. Total cost $330,000.

  • Training for Rural and Interstate-Based Psychologists
    Provision of training for psychologists in rural areas, regional and interstate locations. $5500 per workshop – we deliver approx 60 psychology workshop per year. Total costs $330,000.

Community Programs

  • School Libraries Project
    The experience of depression can be very isolating, and having ready access to credible information is incredibly important. The Black Dog Institute has provided a selection of books to over 480 schools across NSW, and we have received won erful feedback showing the positive impact across students and teaching staff. To complete the rollout to the remaining 560 schools in NSW and expand this valuable program to schools across Australia, we would need to purchase additional books and cover the costs of distributing them. The titles we are providing to schools are 'I Had a Black Dog' and 'Navigating Teenage Depression'. With approximately 3000 high schools in Australia, 500 complete already, average cost per high school $40 (books + postage) we are looking for a total funding goal of $100,000.
