Creating Mentally Healthy Workplaces across NSW
In partnership with the NSW Government, we are providing free mental health training for 3,600 managers working in high risk industries across both Sydney Metro and Gosford/Wyong areas.
No matter what industry you are in, your people are your greatest asset. The success of your business depends on them. With 1 in 5 Australians experiencing a mental health illness in any year, it's very likely one or more of your employees is struggling right now.
Mental illness does not just have a personal cost to those who experience it, but also a cost to productivity and performance. Good mental health is about being at your peak and doing your best work.
Did you know that mental illness is the leading cause of sickness absence and long-term work incapacity in Australia, equating to up to $12 billion lost to Australian businesses each year? Of that, $2.8 billion is lost to those in NSW.
Not only this, but organisations that implement programs to help managers and employees can:
- reduce absenteeism and presenteeism;
- help employees return to work after periods of mental illness;
- increase productivity;
- reduce staff turnover and
- retain and attract talents by actively promoting wellbeing
Managers play the most visible role in supporting employees’ mental health: they’re essentially at the coalface of the workplace experience and are therefore best placed to identify and respond to employee mental health concerns.
Managers also have the unique opportunity to support the team to be at their very best each day and impact the productivity and success of the business.
The training has been developed to help managers develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to support their teams, design work spaces that promote wellbeing and prevent factors that impact mental health.
When workers face challenges, managers will be able to recognise early signs of mental ill-health and use appropriate strategies to support their recovery at work.
Sessions are typically in interactive workshop format and can include facilitator presentation, plenary discussion, group work, video and case studies.
Free training is available for medium sized businesses (20-200 employees) in the following high risk industries:
- Professional, scientific & technical services
- Information media/telecommunications
- Transport, postal and warehousing
Businesses must be located in the Sydney metro and Gosford/Wyong areas in NSW.
The program will be extended to other areas in 2019.
Our presenters will travel to your preferred location. We do request that training rooms are appropriate for numbers of attendees and audio-visual equipment is required.
