Leave a gift in your will
Leaving a gift in your will is a special way to ensure your support of the Black Dog Institute’s work continues long into the future. With your help, together we can create a mentally healthier world.
A gift in your will, or a bequest, enables you to continue supporting those causes you hold dear beyond your own lifetime
Including the Black Dog Institute in your will is a far-sighted and generous gesture. It can make a huge difference to the work we do now and in the future, and ultimately to the lives of people impacted by mental illness.
No matter how big or small, a gift in your will is a lasting way to help us continue our cutting edge research, improve clinical treatments, develop e-mental health services and expand education programs for health professionals and the broader community. Your generosity in leaving a bequest helps us better plan for the future and helps us to save more lives.
With your help, we can continue to improve the lives of people affected by mental illness.
Your will is a legal document that ensures your wishes are followed after your death
Your will is a legal document. Whether you are writing your will for the first time, or revising it at any stage during your life, you should seek the advice of a solicitor or another professional with expertise in this area.
Your solicitor or advisor may ask for an example of wording from us. The exact wording will depend on the type of bequest you decide to make to us, but we recommend you use the following wording:
- the rest and residue of my estate both real and personal
- % (per cent) of the residue of my estate
- % (per cent) of my estate
- $ <insert amount>
I direct that the receipt of a director or officer for the time being of the Black Dog Institute will be a sufficient discharge to my Trustees.'
There may be more information about us that your solicitor might need, such as proof that we have deductible gift recipient status from the Australian Taxation Office, or the registration of our business. Please contact us at email@example.com should you need further details about us.
You are under no obligation to disclose the details of your will to anyone. But if you do decide to leave a bequest to the Black Dog Institute, we'd love to hear from you. Knowing your intentions will enable us to thank you for this ultimate show of generosity during your lifetime, as well as keep you updated about our work and our future plans.
