Lived Experience Resource Centre
The Lived Experience Resource Centre aims to drive and elevate best practice lived experience participation within CRESP’s suicide prevention research.
The insights that come from first-hand experience with suicidal behaviour need to be integrated throughout the entire CRESP model.
To ensure this is adhered to, the Lived Experience Resource Centre enables touch points from idea conception right through to translation and the dissemination of practical tools to improve lives and help prevent suicide.
Working with both people with lived experience of suicide and researchers, we:
- Recruit and enable a network of lived experience advisors
- Provide consultancy and advice throughout the research process
- Develop resources, tools and training programs
- Facilitate workshops and co-design processes
- Build a culture that values and empowers lived experience insights
- Evaluate and review involvement activities to drive best practice
- Share our learnings at conferences and via other communication channels
Working with the CRESP Lived Experience Research Stream, the Resource Centre will be evaluated to establish a best practice model for partnership between researchers and people with lived experience of suicide.
What is lived experience of suicide?
We define lived experience of suicide as:
"having experienced suicidal thoughts, survived a suicide attempt, cared for someone through suicidal crisis, or been bereaved by suicide."
While this definition is inclusive of a range of firsthand experiences with suicidal behaviour, we endeavour to match our Lived Experience Advisors to projects aligned with the type of lived (past) or living (current) experience they bring.
Our lived experience advisors are the heart of the Centre, playing a central role in setting strategic planning, implementation, monitoring and assessing success.
Everyone working or contributing as part of the Centre identifies as having lived experience of suicide and is empowered to use their experience to add value to CRESP.
